Under the helm of new head coach Doc Rivers, the Milwaukee Bucks fell to a 3-7 record after a narrow 113-110 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night.
Rivers assumed the coaching reins from first-year head coach Adrian Griffin, inheriting a promising 30-13 record and the second spot in the Eastern Conference. However, contrary to expectations, the team’s performance has taken a downturn recently, leading to visible frustration from Rivers regarding the players’ performance.
In the aftermath of the unexpected defeat to the Grizzlies, Rivers didn’t sugarcoat his disappointment with the Bucks’ showing. He pointedly noted that some players were mentally absent, quipping that there were “some guys in Cabo,” indicating a lack of focus among certain team members.
“Two guys forget our plays… then a missed shot, and nobody hustles back—that’s how we opened the third quarter. It speaks volumes about our mindset… some were here, and some were in Cabo,” Rivers remarked candidly after the game.
Presently, the Bucks occupy the third seed in the Eastern Conference, clinging to a slim 1.5-game lead over the New York Knicks and a two-game lead over the fifth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers.
As they tread into precarious territory, the Bucks face the looming threat of teams like the Indiana Pacers (four games behind), Miami Heat, and Orlando Magic (each 4.5 games behind Milwaukee), who could capitalize on any further stumbles by the Bucks.
