Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael, a former standout of the Chicago Bears, has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), as confirmed by his family.

The family of Steve “Mongo” McMichael, a revered figure in Chicago Bears history, is appealing to the public for their prayers as the 66-year-old, who has been bravely combating ALS, has been admitted to the ICU due to a urinary tract infection.

Earlier, McMichael’s longtime publicist disclosed that he was rushed to the emergency room under suspicion of pneumonia.

“This is a poignant development in a storyline that has been exceptionally trying for Bears fans and Steve McMichael’s supporters,” remarked David Haugh, morning co-host of the Mully and Haugh Show on 670 The Score. “We simply wish for his recovery and continue to be inspired by his extraordinary courage during these challenging moments.”

McMichael’s recent election to the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame stands as a testament to the unwavering backing from his fans.

Misty, McMichael’s wife, stood in for him in Las Vegas during the NFL honors announcement, returning home to a joyous gathering.

“It’s truly remarkable that he’s able to experience this; it’s everything he’s ever dreamed of, to be acknowledged in the Hall of Fame,” shared Kathy McMichael, Mongo’s sister.

Diagnosed with ALS in 2021, McMichael, aged 66, faced another health setback in August 2023 when he was admitted to the ICU in an unconscious state with sepsis, necessitating treatment with two IV antibiotics. Later, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, as confirmed by a spokesperson.

“We can find strength in his resilience because not only was he a formidable presence on the Bears’ field, but he has also demonstrated remarkable fortitude in his battle against ALS, a lesson from which we can all benefit,” Haugh added.
