Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has laid down his demands in recent days in a message made to the board.
A lot is being made of the 46-year-old’s future on Tyneside of late following the departure of Gareth Southgate as the England manager.
And this has potentially led to Howe laying down his transfer demands to the Newcastle board as the Toon await any significant arrivals this summer.
“It’s about making sure Newcastle United is as strong as it can be for the next season and beyond. We’ve all got to come together and make sure we are the force we want to be,” Howe recently told the media.
In the wake of this comments, Newcastle are now said to be ready to made their move to sign one of the players high up on their list of targets.
Newcastle ready to make their move for defender
It has been a tricky transfer window to navigate for a number of sides this summer with Newcastle not the only side to remain fairly inactive in the market.
The Toon’s European rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, have only seen one permanent signing come through the doors this summer.
Newcastle’s singing of three players is slightly exaggerated given two of those have arrived as backup goalkeepers and Lloyd Kelly has landed as a free transfer.
However, Howe’s side could soon see that change as Paul Mitchell looks to get to work on his first addition as the sporting director.
Malick Thiaw hailed as one of the ‘greatest talents’
The Germany international joined AC Milan back in 2022 and made 21 appearances in Serie A last season.
He made the move to Italy from Schalke where he came through the ranks and earned himself the label of ‘one of the club’s greatest talents‘.
A new centre-back is exactly what Newcastle need given the injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles which have been sustained going into the summer.
Naturally, Howe would have liked these priority areas to have been addressed ahead of their trip to Japan but it seems he is going to have to wait.
Not the ideal start to the summer for Newcastle, but it seems Mitchell is now ready to push for his man.
