Yankuba Minteh bagged his first goal for Brighton just weeks after leaving Newcastle United

Yankuba Minteh took just 15 minutes to make Newcastle United bosses question their recent transfer dealings.

 

Cutting in from the right, sitting two defenders on their backsides before coolly slotting past the goalkeeper showcased the composure the Magpies, ironically, are searching for out wide. Minteh bagged his first goal for Brighton against Japanese outfit Kashima Antlers on Wednesday.

The strike came just weeks after Toon chiefs frantically sold the 20-year-old to comply with FFP/PSR regulations. Despite never playing a game in black-and-white stripes, Minteh left for £33million following an impressive season on loan at Feyenoord.

Fans pleaded with Eddie Howe to give him a chance next season but the decision was taken out of his hands. A stunning opener in a 5-0 rout against Japanese opposition has triggered concern among United supporters.

 

“So the pain begins,” one fan posted on social media. “Every one of these will be a dagger to the hearts of Newcastle fans.”

Another was left furious, with his X-rated comment capturing the mood of fans towards current financial restrictions. The post read: “Not sure I will ever get over Newcastle having to cash in on Minteh whilst Almiron is still employed
