West Ham handed boost to sign ‘Remerkable’ striker as he chooses West Ham over PL rivals.
Julen Lopetegui seems to be keen on adding a new striker to the West Ham squad before the transfer window closes.
The Hammers have been linked with a plethora of exciting forwards, including Youssef En-Nesyri, Tammy Abraham, Samu Omorodion, and most recently, Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran [Sky Sports].
However, one player that the London side have been urged to go after is Brentford’s Ivan Toney after the Bees decided to slash the striker’s price to £50million due to a lack of interest this summer [The Sun].
The 28-year-old – who has been labelled as “remarkable” by Thomas Frank [Brentford FC] – was linked with a bigger Premier League move several times last season, and it is no mystery why with 72 goals and 23 assists in 141 appearances.
Now, West Ham have been handed an all-important boost in their quest to sign the England international, with Manchester United being ruled out of the transfer race.
West Ham United in pole position to sign Ivan Toney?
Man United are not currently in “concrete talks or negotiations” for Toney, according to Florian Plettenberg, with the club focused on other targets for now.
With Michail Antonio and Danny Ings the only two striker options at Lopetegui’s disposal, fans are not convinced by the firepower at the London Stadium.
While the Jamaican looks set to continue his career as a Hammer, his recent injury record will certainly be a concern heading into the 2024/25 campaign, and Toney could easily replace him through the middle.
Ings, on the other hand, has experienced a resurgence under the new manager during pre-season, but with four goals in 52 appearances, there is no guarantee that he is the solution to Lopetegui’s issues.
The attacking trio of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta would provide the forward with even more chances to score, but West Ham will need to empty their pockets if the signing is to be secured.
