Arsenal has made contact with Bruno Guimaraes’ camp over a potential transfer for the Newcastle star. Guimaraes, a 26-year-old midfielder, has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester City this summer. However, things may have gotten trickier for the clubs interested in signing him.
It has been revealed whether or not Arsenal will try to sign Bruno Guimaraes this summer. The 26-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for a while now as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his options in the middle of the park.
Guimaraes, who sees his contract at St James’ Park expire in June 2028, featured 37 times for Newcastle United in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. Playing a key role in Eddie Howe’s side, the Brazil international helped the Magpies finish seventh ahead of Manchester United.
His impressive performances have reportedly courted the interest of some top clubs, including the Gunners, who almost signed him from Olympique Lyonnais a couple of years ago. In fact, according to TEAMtalk, Arsenal believe that a deal can be struck with Newcastle for less than Guimaraes’ release clause – which is thought to be worth £100m.
The report states that Manchester City are ‘confident’ they can sign the Brazilian maestro for around £80m this summer. While the Premier League title contenders may be hopeful of acquiring his signature, TEAMtalk add that Guimaraes is ‘very happy’ in Tyneside and he’s ‘highly unlikely’ to force a move away.
In May, Howe admitted Newcastle are ‘desperate’ to keep Guimaraes. The Magpies boss said: “I don’t think it is a wave goodbye, he does that many times, but it can be interpreted anyway. From my side, I hope it is not. He is integral to what we are doing and we are desperate to keep him.”
Then, in June, Guimaraes provided an update on his future. Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, the midfielder said: “Look, my future, to be honest, is in God’s hands. I have a contract with Newcastle, I’m very happy, as I said, I know how much they like me.
‘I know everything I’ve been doing for the club. In short, I have a contract, I’m happy. I don’t know what can happen, we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but what I can say is that I feel happy.”
Flattered by interest in his services, Guimaraes added: “‘Obviously it’s very nice to have your name linked with big clubs, it shows that I’m doing my job well, but I’m not worried about it at all. As I said, I’m happy at the club. I’m very happy, so let’s see what happens.
“I’m not in any hurry, I’m happy, and it’s up to God, let’s see what happens. It was a good season, even though the club had a lot of injuries, a lot of suspensions, in short, I think it was a great season for me, one that will stay in my memory, and I hope to have more seasons like that.”
