Konstantinos Mavropanos was one of West Ham’s biggest signings last summer, yet the Greek defender didn’t exactly light east London on fire.
The £19m signing from VfB Stuttgart struggled for form under David Moyes, leading to rumours this summer that Mavropanos could leave West Ham after just one year back in the Premier League.
Having started the opening game of the new season against Aston Villa, though, Julen Lopetegui seemingly calmed suspensions that Mavropanos will be on the move just 12 months after swapping the Bundesliga for West Ham.
And the Greek international has now seemingly decided if he’s going to leave West Ham this summer.
Mavropanos to remain at West Ham despite Stuttgart rumours
According to Florian Plettenberg, Mavropanos wants to stay at West Ham despite rumours linking the defender back to Stuttgart, who this season will compete in the UEFA Champions League.
Plettenberg wrote on Twitter: “Rumors about VfB Stuttgart and Konstantinos Mavropanos are wide of mark! And the 26 y/o has no intention of leaving West Ham as he wants to stay. Contract valid until 2028.”
Whilst a return to Germany with Stuttgart would have made sense, it appears that Mavropanos will look to continue his career at West Ham, who new manager Lopetegui seems to trust despite a rough first year back in England.
Indeed, Mavropanos has shown with both Arsenal and Stuttgart that he can be a top defender if given the right platform to succeed, and the 26-year-old is seemingly determined to do all he can to have a good second year with West Ham.
Mavropanos is making the right decision in staying with the Irons
West Ham are a club who have seen a lot of players jump the boat after just one bad season, yet Mavropanos is seemingly determined to break the mold by remaining at the London Stadium.
The Greek international knows he has what it takes to succeed at West Ham, with the Irons having an exceptional transfer window that could push the Hammers to a European finish come the end of the season.
And Mavropanos could play a vital role in this journey, with the former Arsenal man aware that he has the quality to star in the defence for West Ham, who alongside Max Kilman can form a new centre-back partnership that the Premier League could fear.
