Alan Shearer blown away by what ‘magnificent’ Tottenham player did in Saturday’s win over Everton

Tottenham Hotspur put any concerns about their lack of form in front of goal to bed with a stunning win over Everton on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side were left rueing their missed opportunities from their opening game of the season against Everton.

And it seemed as if Tottenham took all of their overriding frustration out on the Toffees who have now made a miserable start to the campaign.

There may be a week left in the transfer window but it seems as if Tottenham’s business for the summer is wrapped up after signing Wilson Odobert.

But the players on display in north London on Saturday put on a might performance with Postecoglou’s side now sat inside the top four in the table.

And there was one player who really impressed Premier League legend Alan Shearer during the victory over the Toffees.

Alan Shearer wowed by what Micky van de Ven did in Tottenham win

Tottenham have been very selective in the players which they have signed this summer with Postecoglou looking to fine tune his side.

Summer signing Dominic Solanke was missing for the squad as he suffers from a fresh injury from the opening game of the term.

But it is one of the players who Postecoglou signed last summer in Micky van de Ven which really impressed Shearer on Saturday.

Speaking on Saturday night’s Match of the Day, Shearer admitted he was left so impressed by the assist Van de Ven provided Heung-min Son with for the final goal of the game.

“Bearing in mind this is 3-0 up, late into the 70th minute. Van de Ven – and Cristian Romero – I thought were magnificent,” said Shearer.

“Look at this break there from Van de Ven, no one can get near him! Then he passes it into Son who puts it away really, really well through the legs of Pickford.”

Micky van de Ven has a point to prove vs Newcastle United

Van de Ven has been a sensational signing for Tottenham and has proven to be one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League.

Postecoglou was also left delighted with Van de Ven’s performance against Everton as the Australian called his defender a ‘special’ player.

The Dutchman has only really had one poor game since landing in north London and that came last season away to Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak twisted the £50k-per-week Spurs defender inside and out back in April and Van de Ven will surely be going into their trip to St. James’ Park next weekend with a point to prove.

This has been a really tough fixture for Tottenham over the last two seasons and a win on Tyneside would make for a really strong start to the first three games of the campaign.
