Paris Sant-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler is undergoing his medical ahead of his transfer to West Ham United, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via Sky Sports News (30 August, 16:38) that the Spanish international has begun his tests with Julen Lopetegui’s side ahead of his deadline day move to the London Stadium.
Soler will join the former Real Madrid manager’s ranks on an initial loan deal, with the Irons holding the option to make his stay in the Premier League permanent next summer for a reported £16.8million [Fabrizio Romano, 30 August].
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Plettenberg said: “I also got the news in these seconds that Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain is undergoing his medical with West Ham right now.
“It’s a loan with an option to buy for the Spanish midfielder.”
Will Carlos Soler exit PSG amid West Ham transfer rumours?
This deal has been hanging in the balance for some time and having looked unlikely to happen earlier this summer, it seems as though the Hammers are finally set to get their man, even if only on an initial loan.
There don’t appear to be any fears around the London Stadium that Soler won’t be able to pass his medical. He may not have played regularly for PSG in recent times, but he is fit and ready to slot into Lopetegui’s plans.
If all goes to plan, it shouldn’t be too long until supporters get their first glimpse of the Spanish international in a Hammers shirt. Those in charge in East London will be desperate to get this deal done with plenty of time to spare until the deadline.
Once all the formalities are finalised in terms of this transfer, attention will surely turn to one or two more outgoings ahead of the deadline.
While new additions may still be made, the focus for the remainder of the summer has to be clearing some space off of the wage bill.
