Julen Lopetegui drops a very clear 15-word free transfer hint

West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui has just dropped an extremely clear free transfer hint.

Julen Lopetegui made some terrific signings for West Ham in the summer, and we definitely have a better squad now than when he took over.

The West Ham head coach brought in nine new players, and got rid of much of the deadwood at the London Stadium.

And it has been claimed that the Spaniard is still in the market to bring in at least one more signing on a free transfer.

Despite all of the brilliant new signings Lopetegui made, he still left himself short in the central defensive department.

And rumours have been rife that he could bring in a free agent centre-back, namely Joel Matip.

However, is that a realistic prospect?

Lopetegui addressed the media today during his pre-match press conference.

The Spaniard discussed a wide range of topics, including certain players’ fitness levels and potential further transfer activity.

Lopetegui responded directly to a question asking him about transfers, as quoted by WHUFC.com.

The Hammers head coach said, We are focused now on working every day and on the players we have now.

Well there you have it, you will not get a clearer hint than that about potential free transfers.

Lopetegui is obviously very happy with the options that he has available to him.

West Ham squad strong enough?

Compared to this time last year, our squad is on another level entirely.

However, in a perfect world I would have liked to see Lopetegui sign another striker, a left-back and another centre-back.

I’m sure he will address those particular positions in January or next summer at the very latest.

Right now, Lopetegui has a squad capable of finishing inside the top seven. However, the top four has to be the Spaniard’s aim at some point in the next three years.

In order to get anywhere near those positions, further top quality reinforcements will be required next summer.

The squad Lopetegui has a his disposal now will be staying the same until at least January, after his comments today on potential free transfers.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It means that Lopetegui wouldn’t have rushed into making a panic signing.
