Everton have not been devastatingly poor this season thus far, yet they find themselves firmly cemented to the bottom of the Premier League table, still without a win.
With this poor run of form has naturally come intense scrutiny on Sean Dyche‘s job, with the 53-year-old continuing to try his best in less-than-favourable conditions.
For all the progress made under his stewardship, there are still a few blatant weaknesses within the squad.
However, what makes things worse is that he seemingly cannot see some of them, and his blindness to such dog legs is getting tiresome for some sections of the fanbase.
What’s the latest on Sean Dyche’s position at Everton?
The latest on Dyche’s future comes courtesy of a few sources, many of which offer contrasting claims.
Naturally, Graeme Bailey’s suggestion that Dyche is on thin ice is justifiable, and will only have intensified after their second straight 3-2 defeat where they first led 2-0.
However, it can also be justified that BBC Sport’s claim is a valid one too, suggesting that Dyche is still backed by the Everton hierarchy.
Both of these claims can be true at the same time, as it would make sense to allow the tactician to tackle this upcoming run of fixtures with how favourable they are in comparison to their opening four matches.
But, there seems to be one or two unforgivable mistakes that he continues to make which only further alienates him from the fanbase.
Persisting with Michael Keane at the back in particular, should it relent, could end up costing him his job.
Michael Keane could cost Sean Dyche his Everton job
Signed for £30m under Ronald Koeman’s reign, this former Burnley defender is inexplicably one of the longest-serving players left at Goodison Park.
And yet, despite having spent seven years at Everton, his outstanding weaknesses never seem to cease, having arguably only worsened since Dyche, his former boss at Turf Moor arrived.
In fact, across the 19 Premier League games that Keane has played for the Toffees under his rule, they have won just twice, claiming 11 points from a possible 57 and shipping 44 goals, an average of 2.3 per game.
He may not always be outwardly at fault for goals conceded, but his continued presence in such a shaky backline leaves fans never really feeling comfortable when he starts.
And yet, even despite spending £17m on a brand-new centre-back this summer, Keane retains his spot against all the odds.
With how poor the start to the season has been, they’re justifiably getting sick and tired of the same old team going out and making the same old mistakes.
This insane approach might have to change eventually, and surely, at the very least to win a few fans back onside, Keane’s departure from the starting lineup should be high on that list.
