West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez may well have made a very big mistake in the summer transfer window.
West Ham brought Edson Alvarez to the London Stadium from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £34 million.
The 26-year-old has proven to be an exceptional signing for the Hammers, so it was a huge blow when the Mexican midfielder picked up a hamstring injury when playing for his country back in June.
He’s back to full fitness now though, and has already showed just how crucial he is to Julen Lopetegui‘s system.
Alvarez is the glue that holds this West Ham team together in my opinion.
However, he did make somewhat of a mistake back in the summer it seems.
Edson Alvarez told 23-yo to join West Ham’s Premier League rivals
How I wish he tried to tempt his international teammate into a move to the London Stadium instead!
The player in question is Julian Araujo, who moved to the Premier League from La Liga in the summer transfer window.
Bournemouth signed the Mexico international from Barcelona for around £9 million in the summer (ESPN).
LA Galaxy’s official X account one described Araujo as ‘electric’, and they’re not wrong, he really is an elite talent.
It seems as though Edson Alvarez is one of the main reasons why the brilliant young right-back moved to the Premier League to join the Cherries.
The Bournemouth star was speaking to Fox Sports Mexico, and he suggested that Alvarez played a role in convincing him to move to the Vitality Stadium in the summer.
How annoying is that. He should have convinced him to join the Hammers instead!
Julian Araujo should’ve join Alvarez at West Ham
The 23-year-old right-back would have provided the perfect competition and cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the London Stadium.
The Hammers would have been wise to sell Vladimir Coufal and bring in Araujo instead.
The 14-capped Mexico international has everything needed to become a world-class right-back.
He’s absolutely rapid, possesses incredible energy and is just as good going forward as he is defensively.
Bournemouth secured themselves an absolute bargain by signing the right-back from Barcelona for just £9 million.
It’s a big shame that Edson Alvarez didn’t try to facilitate a move to West Ham for his international teammate Julian Araujo.
