Everton will go into their clash with Newcastle United this weekend full of confidence, having claimed their first Premier League win of the season last Saturday, and having also snagged four points off Eddie Howe’s side last campaign too.
However, if they are to command another big victory at Goodison Park, the squad will have to dig deep.
After all, it is once again looking a little light on the ground, even if they have welcomed back plenty of previously injured stars of late.
Everton manager Sean Dyche, speaking to reporters, has provided the much-needed and hotly-anticipated update on this.
Everton injury update vs Newcastle United
Taking to his press conference earlier today, naturally proceedings were opened with more takeover talk.
After all, it remains the dominant saga looming over the club, even if things have gone all quiet on that front.
Alan Myers did try and deliver an Everton takeover update, but thus far progress seems quietly steady.
On the injury front, however, there is much to report, with Dyche relaying: ‘They’re a bit longer them two [Chermiti and Broja].
‘Coleman is a bit longer as well. Not too much longer, we’re a bit hopeful over this international period he gets closer.
‘Patto is more common sense now. He’s out training all the time, he needs a game programme after being out just around that six-month mark. A bit of a longer-term one but he’s making good progress, he’s training regularly. So far so good.’
Nathan Patterson stepped up his recovery on Monday, playing yet again for the U21s.
Everton’s right-back woes continue
With this latest update, it means that Everton’s backline practically picks itself. And that is not due to outstanding performances.
After all, there are simply no other options that Dyche has at his disposal, particularly in the full-back areas.
Right-back has been a sparse position for so long now, with Seamus Coleman seldom being a regular fixture with his injury record.
And, with Nathan Patterson another who simply could not keep fit, a 39-year-old Ashley Young has been forced into that role.
Then, when Vitaliy Mykolenko has been unavailable, the veteran was forced to shift over due to a lack of left-backs.
It’s a sad state of affairs, but it’s a backline that performed well enough last weekend. Hopefully, they can do the same again against the Magpies.
