Sean Dyche is set to be backed by Everton despite a frustrating start to the season as he has credit in the bank following last season’s displays.

This is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he’s been told the club are willing to give Dyche time after the way he dealt with their off-field issues.

Since taking over at Goodison Park in 2023, the boss has been forced to deal with ongoing takeover talk behind the scenes as well as financial issues and two separate points deductions.

Despite this, and having last season’s points tally reduced by eight, he has led the Toffees to consistent Premier League survival and will be backed to do so again.

Everton had picked up just one point from their opening five Premier League games, but a 2-1 home win against Crystal Palace has brought a positive feeling back to the club.

The home supporters had grown impatient following heavy early-season defeats and after seeing the team throw away two-goal leads in back-to-back games.

However, there is a feeling at the club that Dyche remains the right man for the job, with the Palace win earning him more time to improve their league position.

Brown previously told Football Insider that David Moyes would be keen to return to Goodison should Dyche lose his job, while Graham Potter had also been linked.

Now, though, the former West Ham, Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers scout, who has worked closely with club owners, explained that Everton remain reluctant to part ways with their man.

“That win will keep him in charge for the time being,” he told Football Insider.

“Where are Everton going to go anyway? They’re up a gum tree really in terms of what they can spend and where they can go.

“I’ve heard from Everton sources there’s a lot of sympathy towards Dyche at Everton in terms of what happened to them and Nottingham Forest.

“Everton can’t go out and spend £70-75million players, so you feel sorry for Dyche in his position.

“He’s come in and he has to deal with the situation.

“He can’t change it, he’s the one who has to handle it all and I don’t think they could’ve had anybody better to do that.

“Last year, they picked up enough points that when the penalty kicked in they weren’t right down the bottom, and they were able to fight back.

“As far as I know, they won’t have that happen again this year.

“I think Dyche will be backed by the club to keep them out of trouble.“
