The young talent in the academy who plays like Wayne Rooney ready to shine

Sean Dyche has ‘superb’ Finch Farm talent ready to unleash at Everton, he’s scored 5 in his last 3

Everton’s academy has been famed for the past few decades, having held onto the proud claim that they have produced some of England’s best ever.

Wayne Rooney remains their chief export, having gone on to become Manchester United and England’s top scorer for a period.

His talent is famed across the world, and it’s always nice to remember that he was forged in Merseyside, under the Toffees’ watchful eye.

And whilst few will ever live up to the level he set, there is one promising forward currently in Everton’s academy who will have aspirations of at least breaking into the Premier League soon enough.

Who is Everton talent Charlie Whitaker?

Fortunately for Charlie Whitaker, his recent form for the U21s will have done him plenty of favours in fast-tracking that goal.

After all, the 21-year-old has hit five goals in his last three games in the Premier League 2, having already beaten his tally from the previous campaign.

Having made steady steps with each passing year, his development has been watched with interest.

Especially after he struck a special hat trick back in 2021, spurring The Athletic journalist Paddy Boyland to laud his ‘superb’ showing.

He has been with Everton since he was 12, and has slowly moved further and further up the pitch, initially starting as a midfielder.

Which stars have Everton’s academy produced in recent years?

Whilst Everton’s academy was once famed for its remarkable and regular production of high-level stars, it feels like the well has dried up in recent years.

However, that is simply not the case.

What has instead occurred is that, due to their financial restrictions, the academy has had to become a money-making scheme rather than a means of improving their first team.

Anthony Gordon marks the outstanding product of the last few years, having burst into the starting side with some much-needed pace before garnering the club a much-needed £45m.

Other players produced and sold include Tom Cannon, who recently hit four goals in one game in the Championship, and Ellis Simms, who last season scored 14 in the same league.

Lewis Dobbin left Everton in the summer just gone as part of an arrangement with Aston Villa, with Tim Iroegbunam coming in the opposite direction.

Tom Davies, who was expected to become a superstar after he burst onto the scene in 2017, recently left for free to join Sheffield United.
