The Premier League have confirmed that Beto was offside when scoring late on during Everton’s defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s. The forward netted just minutes after Adam Armstrong’s goal but saw his effort chalked off after a long VAR check.

It came after he’d previously hit the bar in a lively substitute appearance before Everton fell to their first defeat after five games unbeaten. It was Southampton’s first Premier League win since March 2023 and leaves Everton 16th in the table and four points above Ipswich Town in the drop zone.
