Everton have experienced their issues already in the opening stages of the 2024/25 campaign with a hugely disappointing result on the weekend.
Sean Dyche has seen his side’s cushion on the bottom three reduced to just four points after failing to take up on their chance to beat a Southampton side who were sat bottom of the table.
A big month awaits Everton with the Blues in serious need of adding some points to the board with an incredibly tough December ahead of them.
Dyche is believed to be losing the dressing room with some of the decisions he is making including leaving Jarras Branthwaite on the bench.
However, it is a member of Liverpool’s coaching staff who has caused a lot of controversy among those on Merseyside in recent months.
What has been said about John Heitinga’s Everton return
Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted John Heitinhga’s appointment was a controversial one due to his previous as an Everton player.
And Heitinga’s appointment is something which Dutchman Boudewijn Zenden has told Voetbal Primeur he’s expecting to receive a frosty reception at Goodison Park next month.
“John’s presence gives watching Liverpool an extra dimension, yes,” he said.
“Arne discussed that [Everton] with John, but John didn’t see that as a problem. Liverpool fans are not bothered by that either. Liverpool have to go to Goodison Park on December 7, then John might hear something from the Everton fans.
“But at Liverpool they are already crazy about John. Arne did not know John personally very well but heard through the grapevine that many players were very enthusiastic about John’s work. He is now focusing on individual coaching and defense with the first team.”
Whether the actual Everton manager will make it to the Merseyside Derby is another question with The Friedkin Group already eyeing Dyche’s potential replacement at Everton.

What John Heitinga previously said about Everton
Of course, players cross the lines and occasionally there is the odd individual who ends up playing for rival clubs.
However, it does feel slightly odd to see Heitinga make the move to Anfield when he not so long ago shared his love for the Toffees.
It was only in 2019 when Heitinga took to social media to respond to the official Everton account where he said ‘once a Blue, always a Blue’.
But he is not expected to receive a warm welcome when he makes the return to Goodison Park in December as he now represents the red side of the city.
