- Friedkin Group hold talks with former Nottingham Forest chief ahead of Everton takeover
Everton‘s prospective new owners could be in place at Goodison Park by mid-December if what reporters are saying is true, which would give them a little bit of preparation before the January window.
However, the January transfer window is generally a quiet one, as teams can’t afford to spend big unless they sell big, with PSR issues still a thing.
Interestingly, the future of Jarrad Branthwaite has come into question recently after Sean Dyche refused to start him against Southampton. He’s appeared in just six minutes of action in the last two games.
That’s not currently a worry for the Friedkin Group though, as they’re more focused on getting the right people in place at the top of the food chain, and they appear to have someone in mind.

The Friedkin Group in talks to hire former Nottingham Forest chief Dane Murphy in Edu style role
The Friedkin Group have already been advising on different moves behind the scenes, and now it appears as if they’re set to take a leaf out of Evangelos Marinakis’ book with an Edu style appointment.
So, it appears as if Dane Murphy’s potential role could be across Roma and Everton, as well as any other tasks they may have him do outside of football, should he be hired.
According to the Athletic, Murphy has a strong relationship with TFG and has discussed a consultancy role for their wider sporting group, which would include Everton.
He left his role as Nottingham Forest CEO in January of 2023 by mutual consent.
Who is Dane Murphy?
Well, as mentioned, Dane Murphy was the CEO of Nottingham Forest from July 2021 until January 2023.
He’s still very young at 38 years of age, and already has a good relationship with the Friedkin Group and many contacts across the pond in America.
During his playing days he played in the MLS and in Europe. In terms of his more senior roles outside of football he has been at DC United, Real Salt Lake, as well as English club Barnsley.
Murphy has already shown he can have a positive influence on football clubs, having helped Nottingham Forest achieve promotion to the Premier League a couple of years back.
He’s currently in a consultant role for Sports-focused RedBird and Otro. Many fans may recognise them as the owners of AC Milan and Toulouse.
