Sean Dyche accepted it was his responsibility to ensure Everton are better than the effort they mustered in the goalless draw against 10-man Brentford.

The Blues missed a golden opportunity to find a valuable win when the Bees, who had lost every game this season and not kept a clean sheet, had captain Christian Norgaard sent off for a first half lunge on Jordan Pickford.

But while they had 27 efforts on goal and dominated possession, Everton were unable to find a way through Thomas Frank’s side. Brentford, in fact, created the best chances of the game with Pickford saving from one-on-ones with Yoane Wissa and Keane Lewis-Potter.

Speaking after the game, Dyche acknowledged his side did not deserve to win and that he was disappointed as a result.

Of the reaction of the supporters, he said: “They can direct it at whoever they want. They expect us to win. I expect us to win. It’s our responsibility and my responsibility to make sure we do better than we did today.”
