According to Fichajes, Real Sociedad’s Jon Aramburu has emerged as a big target for Newcastle United ahead of the summer. The magpies are reportedly ready to make a €40 million offer for the Venezuelan defender in an effort to test the resolve of the Spanish club.
Jon Aramburu has had a rapid rise to first-team action at Real Sociedad, given he was in the Spanish third tier as recently as 2023. The right-sided defender has been tremendous this season since coming into the first team under Imanol Alguacil, making 30 appearances across all competitions and being a key starter for the club.
He was drafted from the Real Sociedad B squad at the start of the summer and has repaid the faith shown in his abilities so far. He was the subject of interest from Real Madrid earlier in the season. Still, Real Sociedad were never about to entertain any offers in January, although that might not be the case in the summer.
Real Sociedad has already renewed his deal in January until 2030, which also comes with a €60 million release clause. Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old defender, who primarily plays as a right-back but is capable enough to feature centrally as well as a left-back.
His versatility has made him a big target for the Magpies, who are reportedly willing to make a €40 million offer in the summer to test Real Sociedad’s resolve. Whether that would be enough to let go of the talented 22-year-old defender remains to be seen, as the Spanish side could seek a fee much closer to the €60 million release clause in Aramburu’s contract.
Jon Aramburu to replace Kieran Trippier?
Given Aramburu’s natural position as a right-back, it’s obvious that Newcastle United are looking at him as a long-term successor to Kieran Trippier. The Venezuelan defender has key aspects to his game, such as powerful defending and great anticipation, that make him an attractive idea for the Magpies.
Trippier had late interest from Galatasaray before the Turkish window shut, but Newcastle United had by then decided to keep him despite floating an idea to part ways in January. Aramburu could be the ideal successor to the English veteran, although the money might be an issue as Real Sociedad will want much more than the €40 million mentioned in the report.
