David Moyes
sends ‘huge caution’ warning to Everton players after latest win
The Everton manager reacts after the Premier League clash at Palace.
David Moyes insisted there was still a need for caution after a fourth win in five games moved Everton to the brink of safety.
The Blues pushed into the heart of mid-table with a hard-fought win at Crystal Palace. A depleted squad, savaged by injuries to key players and the suspension of Abdoulaye Doucoure, delivered a battling display at Selhurst Park to secure a 2-1 win.
That victory, through goals from Beto and Charly Alcaraz, moved Everton above Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United and 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
Moyes conceded the situation was improving but, given the extent of his injury list and the length of time it is likely to take for important players to return, he is still eager to prevent his players from getting ahead of themselves.
After the game, he stressed the resilience and determination that have been characteristic of the opening weeks of his second stint at Goodison Park must also remain.
He said: “Look, there is still huge caution. But I want to start believing that we can be better, now. What I need to do, what I want, is more improvement.
“I want to see more improvement from the players as well. I want us to play better when we can.
“But I don’t want us to lose the good habits they have got, being tough, resilient, committed, all the things which, when you’re not quite so good, you’ve got to make sure you do those well.”
