The January transfer window was quiet in terms of arrivals – there were no improvements made to Newcastle United’s squad, despite the exits of two useful squad players.
Eddie Howe reluctantly allowed Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly to leave in January – the latter had only completed a move to Tyneside six months prior.
Early signs suggest that the summer transfer window will be more positive for Newcastle fans who have only seen one important first-team signing in the last 12 months. Lewis Hall’s loan move was made into a permanent one after impressing in the latter stages of last season.
Most of Paul Mitchell’s recruitment has been focused towards bringing younger talents to Newcastle’s academy. Fans saw Irishman Kyle Fitzgerald and Baran Yildiz arrive on Tyneside in January. 17-year-old Vakhtang Salia will join the Magpies in the summer after agreeing a deal in October 2024.
Newcastle are now working on signing another exciting young star on a free in the summer – the news of his departure has not been taken well by the fans of his current club.

Antonio Cordero booed by Malaga fans amid Newcastle move
Malaga winger Antonio Cordero has enjoyed a fine season in the Segunda Division, scoring four goals and bagging five assists. His form has caught Mitchell’s eye and, as a result, Newcastle are set to sign Cordero in the summer.
The Magpies have beaten Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid to Cordero’s signature – Mitchell’s negotiation and persuasive skills are a catalyst to the decision.
Geordie Boot Boys were told that Cordero’s Newcastle move is ‘almost there’ and it was revealed that Howe will not throw him straight into the first team.

The whistling for even louder every time Cordero came into contact with the ball until a section of the fans began applauding the 18-year-old.
Reports in February stated that Cordero wants to join Newcastle. Fans will now hope that he can get as many minutes in Malaga as possible before making the switch to Tyneside.
Paul Mitchell’s plan for Newcastle’s young players
While there has been a slew of younger players joining the club in the last 12 months, not all of them will be able to find the game time they want in the early stages of their Newcastle careers.
Jack Ross must find loans for Newcastle’s youngsters in the summer, per Mitchell’s request.
The Magpies have already allowed several players to leave the club on loan this season – including Alex Murphy who joined Bolton Wanderers. His move has proven to be successful, despite manager Ian Evatt leaving just a couple of days after his arrival.

There is a chance that Cordero could also leave Newcastle on loan for his first season to continue his development.
Howe did the same thing for Yankuba Minteh who proved to be a success at Feyenoord before moving to Brighton. Toon fans never got to see the young winger play in a black and white shirt before his exit which was fueled by ongoing PSR troubles.
