Alan Shearer ‘risks wrath of Man United fans’ with comments ahead of Everton game

Alan Shearer will not have endeared himself to Manchester United fans with what he has had to say ahead of the Everton game.

Everton head into their game against Manchester United sat one place and one point above them in the Premier League table, with the two sides in hugely contrasting form across recent weeks.
Since David Moyes returned to Goodison Park on 9 January, the Toffees have won four league games from six, including a spell of three on the bounce prior to last week’s dramatic draw against Liverpool.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have spiralled into a rut not seen since the days before Alex Ferguson’s era, dropping to 15th on the ladder amid a run of eight defeats from their last 12 league matches.
Everton’s massive upturn in form coinciding with a slump not seen before in Manchester United’s recent history arguably makes Moyes’ side the favourites ahead of kick-off, and Alan Shearer certainly thinks so.
Writing in the Metro (21 February), Shearer argued that as United head to Goodison for the final time before Everton move to their new stadium, they won’t have enough to contain Moyes’ resurgent Toffees.
Shearer said: “The form that Everton are in, with the way that David Moyes has got them playing, I would think that Everton will win this game.
Alan Shearer verdict will leave Everton fans full of confidence

It’s rare that the Blues have headed into any game against Manchester United as favourites, but given their respective runs of form, it’s no surprise to see Everton being backed to come away with the points.

Everton have lost their last six matches to the Red Devils in all competitions, including a 4-0 hammering at Old Trafford in December which proved to be one of the final nails in the coffin for Sean Dyche.
Moyes’ record against his former employers is hardly sparkling either, with just seven wins in 39 matches – the vast majority of which came during his first spell at Goodison before heading to Old Trafford.

However, things couldn’t be more different for Moyes and Everton right now, following that superb run of form his has dragged them away from the Premier League’s bottom three and above United into 14th.

United fans certainly won’t be pleased that their ex-manager is being backed to get one over on them, but given how bad their form is compared to Everton, Shearer can’t really be blamed for his verdict.
