Marcus Rashford played a starring role in Aston Villa’s 2-1 comeback victory over Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Marcus Rashford has enjoyed his time at Aston Villa after a loan switch from Manchester United earlier this month.
The 27-year-old shone during Villa’s 2-1 comeback against Chelsea, setting up both goals for Marco Asensio and proving to be a significant substitution at half-time.
With just 11 minutes on the clock once introduced, Rashford whipped in a cross that allowed Asensio to bag his first goal for the club. The match-winner came late in the 89th minute with Asensio capitalising on Filip Jorgensen’s inability to save a second attempt.
Although yet to score himself, Rashford has provided two assists in three league appearances. Following the match, he took to Instagram to post celebratory images alongside his teammates, captioning it: “Huge 3 points. UTV.”
Asensio, who spoke to Sky Sports post-match, acknowledged Rashford’s contribution: “We know all the qualities of Marcus.
“He helps us a lot and thank you also to him for the two assists.”
Villa’s head coach Unai Emery opened up about his work with Rashford, focusing on improving aspects of his performance which had declined at United.
We want to support him, help him. Try to help him to feel comfortable here,” he remarked.
“Try to help him get confidence with us. Try to use the skills in our tactical ideas, try to be demanding with him. He is in this process.
“Of course he played a fantastic 45 minutes. We now want him to be consistent. Hopefully he is going to be important, like today, but then more and more and more.
“The most important thing for him is to try to be here with us and be confident and comfortable in a good atmosphere – this is my objective.”
With two more games to come before the end of the month, Rashford will be eyeing starts at Crystal Palace on Tuesday as well as in the FA Cup tie against Cardiff City next Friday.
