Brentford v Everton: How David Moyes reacted instantly to O’Brien goal

Everton continued their unbeaten run in the Premier League with a hard-earned point at Brentford in midweek.

Jake O’Brien is a man who has come into his own and carved out a place in the team since David Moyes’ arrival, with performances drastically improving to elevate the Toffees out of any relegation threat. The towering defender headed home in the second half to cancel out Yoane Wissa’s opener for Thomas Frank’s men, earning the Blues a share of the spoils.
Moyes has overseen a superb turn in form since his return to Goodison Park after almost 12 years away.

And while his celebration was reserved in the wake of O’Brien’s goal in West London – as opposed to the jubilant pocket of away supporters – The Athletic’s Paddy Boyland did spot one reaction.
The draw sees Everton 15 points above the drop zone in the Premier League, as the Friedkins work behind the scenes to shape up their new possession ready for a new era of hopeful glory at Bramley-Moore Dock.
O’Brien enjoying life on Merseyside after slow start

O’Brien was signed during the Sean Dyche era when he joined from Lyon last summer, but barely got a sniff at Everton under the former manager.

He has now found his place in the team under Moyes and can offer a sturdy service at both centre-half and right-back, and credit must go to him for finding the alternative while Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski solidify their partnership further.

The 6’6′ powerhouse scored five goals in Ligue 1 for Lyon last term and clearly possesses an eye for goal, and it is a weapon Moyes could look to maximise further as he opens his Toffees account.
Everton have a new lease of life and it is down to players like O’Brien and Beto who have demonstrated their initiative to recognise they can rekindle their Goodison careers.

The Irish international now knows he can become part of the fabric for years to come as the move from L4 to L5 looms, and establish himself in Moyes’ long-term plans.

Yoane Wissa found the back of the net for the visitors as they went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
It was arguably against the run of play with the Blues having some good chances in the first half but they scored in the second period courtesy of Jake O’Brien’s header.
In the first half, Beto had a huge chance to find the back of the net, after Brentford made a mess at the back.

He stole the ball from Ethan Pinnock, who may even have been sent off for the incident, and went clean through on goal.
However, he made a hash of the chance and hit it straight into the goalkeeper, much to the annoyance of everyone associated with Everton. Reacting to the incident on Premier League’s world feed, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, a Sky Sports pundit, said at 8:12pm: “Incredible. David Moyes can’t believe it. Beto can’t believe it. Neither can I. He’s been in such great form.”
