I can never get enough of current Everton hero – he is world class
The former Blues goalkeeper said his predecessor had almost “single-handedly” saved Everton
Everton have a genuine world class talent in their squad, according to former number one Tim Howard. Howard, who clocked up more than 400 appearances for the Blues, believes Jordan Pickford is up there among the greats who are currently playing around the globe.
And he cites his credentials for both club and country as evidence for his claims.
Pickford has been a loyal servant to Everton through a difficult period for the club. While he has been reaching the later stages of major tournaments for England, back home his efforts have been put towards preventing Everton from a catastrophic relegation.

And his saves have been the difference between success and disaster throughout.
In each of the last three campaigns it is possible to point to standout Pickford achievements as being critical to Everton remaining in the top flight.
His save from Cesar Azpilicueta in the 1-0 win over Chelsea was dubbed by then manager Frank Lampard as the save of the Premier League era. His remarkable stop protected the lead given by Richarlison in a game that kickstarted the run that would pull Everton to safety in the final week of the season.
The following year, his penalty save from James Maddison enabled Everton to salvage a point in the relegation six-pointer with Leicester City. With just weeks of the season left, the Blues were heading into half-time at the King Power Stadium 2-1 down and with club icon Seamus Coleman having been stretchered off the pitch.
Pickford’s stop from Maddison proved to be one of the most important saves in the club’s history, preventing the hosts from opening a two goal lead over Everton. Alex Iwobi later rescued a draw and Everton stayed up at Leicester’s expense.
Last season, Everton survived relegation despite two points deductions largely due to their defensive resilience – Pickford key as only Arsenal kept more clean sheets.
And while the drama has unfolded at Everton, Pickford has been crucial to England reaching the final of two European Championships and pushing deep into two World Cup campaigns.
With all that in mind, Howard had little doubt about the importance and influence of Pickford.
He told The Big Interview: “Jordan Pickford is world-class, he’s been nothing short of sensational. He has been a brilliant servant to this club, he’s nearly single-handedly saved this club. What he is to this country as England’s number one, I’m delighted to be around him to pick his brain and to watch him. I can never get enough for Jordan Pickford, he’s fantastic.”
