Anthony Gordon has a disastrous show against Brighton and set to miss the Wembley touchdown

Newcastle United have been knocked out of the FA Cup after a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Brighton after extra-time.

Eddie Howe named a strong side for the cup match with Alexander Isak and Joelinton returning from injury and the game started at a high tempo.
Both teams looked dangerous but it was Newcastle United who took the lead when Isak smashed in a penalty after Yankuba Minteh upended Tino Livramento in the box.

It was an eventful return to St. James’ Park for Minteh, who made amends for his mistake by slotting in the equaliser.

The Magpies were sluggish after the break with too many players being slack on the ball and causing problems for themselves by giving it away.
It was a low quality game with both teams playing well below their usual standard and things took a disastrous turn for Newcastle when Anthony Gordon was sent off for a shove off the ball on Jan Paul Van Hecke and Isak hobbled off injured moments later.

A boring half continued to get more dramatic as Tariq Lamptey was then dismissed as well before Fabian Schar thought he’d won it with a great volley but his goal was disallowed for offside.

A tense extra-time followed but it was Brighton who edged it when Danny Welbeck lofted the ball into the goal for a heartbreaking end to the game.
