Oh, Anthony Gordon. The Liverpool-supporting former Everton winger is now set to miss Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final after picking up a red card at the weekend.

The former Blues forward was given his marching orders during the Magpies’ 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup, after pushing Jean Paul van Hecke in the face with both hands in the 83rd minute.

Gordon was left dismayed by the decision and will have no doubt felt even worse when he realised he will miss the clash at Wembley on March 16 as a result.

Newcastle are set to appeal against the decision, although any overturn is surely unlikely given the nature of the incident. That means Gordon will now watch the Magpies from the sidelines in a final for the second time since his move from Merseyside.

Why did he miss the first one? He was picked to play for Everton whilst an Everton player by then Everton manager Frank Lampard. In a ‘stupid’ game too! Terrible, eh?

“I was devastated last time,” said Gordon reflecting on such an affront recently. “I played in a stupid cup game [a 4-1 loss to Bournemouth] just before I come [to Newcastle]. I had a broken hand, I just remember thinking ‘why did I play in that game’? I travelled down, unfortunately we lost but what an experience.”

He added: “Hopefully I get to be part of it this time.”

Ah.

With those comments and plenty more in mind, sympathy for Gordon for his red card won’t be found anywhere on Merseyside.

Liverpool supporters will no doubt be pleased a dangerous player will be unavailable for the game, while Blues can take comfort in some potentially karmic football forces taking hold after the winger’s dismissive remarks.

Indeed, BBC pundit and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson called Gordon’s behaviour against Brighton “petulant” and, wait for it, “stupid”!

The England winger will no doubt have more chances to play in major finals for his Saudi-backed employers in the future. That wait will be an agonising one after this moment of madness though, especially after their FA Cup elimination this weekend.

It couldnt happen to a better man we all know he wanted to go if Liverpool come in for him he would be off in a shot again but at least we got a decent fee for him at the time

Can I ask why I keep getting deactivated for pointing out he was under contract and playing was what he was paid for. He is missing this one due to his own actions.

When he was at Everton if any Player Tackled him and he was’nt given the Foul you knew what was coming next, after the Player foul him and it did’nt matter where on the Pitch! One Everton game he ran from the opposing

Corner to his own area and just lashed out and then started walking

knowing he was getting sent off!
