Newcastle Confirms Key Player’s Absence for Carabao Cup Final Against Liverpool as Anthony Gordon Update Emerges

Newcastle United Confirm Key Absences for Carabao Cup Final Against Liverpool

Newcastle United have officially confirmed that Lewis Hall will be unavailable for the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. Additionally, the club has conceded that they will be without Anthony Gordon, who is suspended following his red card against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Eddie Howe’s squad endured a disappointing weekend, crashing out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat to Brighton. To compound their troubles, Gordon was dismissed late in the match after an altercation with Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke. The incident saw the Newcastle winger make contact with the Dutchman’s face, leading to a straight red card.

In the aftermath, Howe suggested he would review the footage before determining whether to appeal the decision. However, football pundits have largely agreed that overturning the red card would be highly unlikely. On Wednesday, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reported that Newcastle had opted against lodging an appeal, effectively confirming Gordon’s three-match suspension. As a result, he will not only miss the Carabao Cup final at Wembley but also the upcoming Premier League fixtures against West Ham United and Brentford.

Gordon’s suspension is just one of several setbacks for Newcastle ahead of their crucial clash with Liverpool. Lewis Hall, who did not feature in the Brighton match, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury. According to an official club statement released on social media, Hall sustained a foot injury that will require surgery, followed by a period of rehabilitation with Newcastle’s medical team.

“Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot. Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team,” the club announced.

The news of Hall’s injury is a significant blow to Howe’s defensive options. The young left-back had recently impressed with his performance against Mohamed Salah during Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League. His absence further depletes a squad already dealing with various injury concerns.

With both Gordon and Hall ruled out, Newcastle face an even tougher challenge heading into the Carabao Cup final. The Magpies will be desperate to overcome their recent struggles and put up a strong performance at Wembley, but injuries and suspensions have severely limited Howe’s squad depth.

As Newcastle prepare for the final, Howe will need to find solutions to cope with the absence of two key players. The pressure is mounting on the Magpies, who will hope to regroup and defy the odds against a formidable Liverpool side.
