Amadou Onana’s debut season at Villa Park has been plagued with injuries, but he was named on the bench for the UEFA Champions League second leg with Club Brugge

Aston Villa star Amadou Onana has sent a cryptic message ahead of his long-awaited return from injury.

The midfielder, who arrived at Villa Park from Everton for a bumper £50m last summer, has seen his debut campaign disrupted by multiple injuries. His last game for the Villans was the 2-0 defeat away at Wolves on February 1.

But the 23-year-old made a huge step on his road back to recovery earlier this month. The Belgian was named on the bench for Villa’s UEFA Champions League second leg tie with Club Brugge – though he was a unused substitute.

Onana has also become somewhat of a regular internationally too, but his fitness issues saw him left out of Belgium’s latest Nations League squad for the quarter-final clash with Ukraine. They won 4-3 on aggregate.

A comeback definitely seems to be on the cards for the midfielder, who has dropped several hints to Villa fans. But his latest is the most mysterious of the lot.

Just days before Unai Emery’s side are set to return to action on March 30, Onana posted a heartfelt message on his social media. He wrote: “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself.”
