Newcastle United are ‘advancing’ in talks to sign Brighton star Joao Pedro this summer, according to iNews.

The Magpies are keen to strengthen their forward options during the transfer window after reaching the Champions League group stages for a second time in three seasons, while they also ended a 70-year trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup in 2024/25 too.

Eddie Howe has identified Brazilian forward Pedro as a key target to improve his squad, and now talks are beginning to progress.

Pedro, who has been described as an ‘absolute superstar’, is expected to leave the AMEX Stadium this summer after a training ground bust-up with defender Jan Paul Van Hecke, which saw him dropped from the Brighton squad for the final two games of the season.

It’s expected that any deal for him to move on would be worth around £60m, and Newcastle are willing to pay that amount, with the belief that talks are now “advancing” between the two clubs.

It’s also believed that Newcastle expect transfer business to ‘ramp up’ in the next week, which would allow for Newcastle to potentially seal a deal for the Brazilian forward.

The 23-year-old is keen on a move to Newcastle and is even open to playing on the right-wing, which would help Howe to form a sensational attack alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.

Newcastle also face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature, but they are hopeful of being able to seal a deal before the Blues firm up their interest. They have already missed out on their prime target, with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo preferring a move to join Manchester United instead.
