Newcastle United have reportedly scouted Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Newcastle United know they have a lot of work to do to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.

The Magpies have struggled to get transfer business over the line, with Anthony Elanga their only senior arrival so far this summer.

Nonetheless, the Toon continue to be linked with a number of incoming and outgoing transfers – though all focus now seems to be on the latter.

ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and speculation;

Newcastle United scout Ligue 1 goalkeeper

The Athletic claims that Newcastle United have scouted Lille goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, among others. It comes following the Magpies’ recent setback in their attempt to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Howe has been a long-term admirer of the England youth international, who has been tipped to become the next No.1 at senior level, too. However, the Magpies have struggled to make progress in their pursuit of the Burnley shot stopper, with Manchester City now said to have Trafford on their list of possible goalkeeper options.

Other reports claim Pep Guardiola’s side are in talks with Burnley over a fee, with Newcastle now at risk of missing out on another target. That being said, the report indicates there’s no guarantee the Magpies go after a goalkeeper this summer, despite scouting a number of targets.

Odysseas Vlachodimos is reportedly available for loan, with Martin Dubravka potentially departing if Newcastle get a deal over the line for Trafford.

ChronicleLive says: “Newcastle know missing out on Trafford would be a huge setback this summer having tried to sign the goalkeeper for over 12 months. However, with so many goalkeepers at the club, they need to offload some before they can strengthen up that department. If they miss out on Trafford, it makes little sense to add another to their ranks without departures.”

Sevilla plot move for forgotten Newcastle star

AS claims that Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is a potential transfer target for La Liga side Sevilla, who they also claim will be available for loan this summer.

Arsenal shot stopper Karl Hein is also said to be on their list of goalkeeper targets, who spent last season on loan with Valladolid in Spain. They also state the Greek goalkeeper has turned down a move to Pumas de México after struggling to force his way into the starting XI.

Vlachodimos made just one appearance for the Magpies following a £20million move from Nottinham Forest last summer.

ChronicleLive says: “Newcastle need to do all they can to trim up their goalkeeping department – and offloading Vlachodimos would be a huge step in the right direction.”
