West ham agree personal terms with striker ahead of potential move

West Ham Close in on Striker as Personal Terms Agreed with Callum Wilson

West Ham United appear to be on the verge of bolstering their attacking options, with reports confirming that the Hammers have agreed personal terms with former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson. The experienced forward, who became a free agent after his contract at St. James’ Park expired earlier this month, is now set for a potential move to the London Stadium.

The news, widely reported by various sports outlets, indicates a significant step forward in Graham Potter’s summer recruitment drive. Wilson, 33, brings a wealth of Premier League experience, having scored 49 goals in 130 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Bournemouth in 2020. His time at the Magpies was marked by impressive goalscoring displays, though also by persistent injury challenges, which ultimately limited his availability.

Despite a collective high in helping Newcastle secure a Carabao Cup triumph, Wilson himself candidly admitted his final season was “one of my worst individually.” However, his proven track record in front of goal and his leadership qualities are likely to be attractive to West Ham as they seek to add depth and a clinical edge to their frontline.

If the move is finalized, Wilson will become West Ham’s third significant signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Senegalese international El Hadj Malick Diouf and former Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters. French centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo also recently completed a permanent transfer after a successful loan spell.

The acquisition of a seasoned striker like Wilson could prove crucial for West Ham, especially with European competition likely on the horizon. The Hammers have been keen to add a reliable goalscorer to complement their existing attacking talent and provide an alternative to Niclas Füllkrug. While some fan sentiment suggests a desire for a younger, high-potential forward, Wilson’s immediate impact and big-game experience could be invaluable.

Discussions are now expected to focus on the final details of his contract, including the length of the deal. With personal terms already in place, West Ham will be hoping for a swift conclusion to the transfer, allowing Wilson to integrate into the squad as soon as possible and contribute to their preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
