Newcastle United remain keen to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford
Yoane Wissa of Brentford celebrates
All eyes will be on west London this week as Newcastle United await to see whether transfer target Yoane Wissa returns to training with Brentford.
Wissa left the club’s Portugal training camp near Lisbon last week as crunch talks were arranged with club chief Phil Giles to thrash out his future.
Since then, the player has refused to train and Brentford continue to hold out for mega money for the 28-year-old’s signature.
The downing of tools from Wissa’s perspective is alleged to be due to a promise made by Brentford to sell him this summer. Sources in London deny this was ever the case.
After all, knowing fellow attacker Bryan Mbeumo was likely to depart, it makes little sense for a club as ambitious as Brentford to pre-sanction a move for their second best forward.
This, after already losing Ivan Toney in recent seasons.

The big tell over just where Wissa’s head at will come this week. Brentford are due back in training on home soil in the coming days, with new boss Keith Andrews adamant the player will be in attendance.
“There are clubs interested and he felt it was the right thing to go back to London,” the manager said on Friday.
“It’s simple really, he folds back into the group next week when we come back to training.”
The coming 72 hours will prove crucial in United’s pursuit. Giles has been in contact with Andy Howe, the nephew of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, as he assumes more responsibility behind the scenes in the absence of Paul Mitchell.
In recent days, Wissa has shown more desire to push through a St James’ Park move than remain down south.
Brentford are expecting the player back in action but failure to turn up again reiterates his desire to join Newcastle this summer.
