Unai Emery has confirmed that Morgan Rogers will be fit to feature against Newcastle United on Saturday, but Andres Garcia and Ross Barkley will be sidelined, while Emi Martinez is suspended.

Rogers suffered an injury early in the second half of Villa’s pre-season friendly against AS Roma last Wednesday.

He subsequently missed the final two pre-season matches of the summer against Marseille and Villarreal.

Rogers returned to training earlier this week and is now available for selection as Newcastle head to Villa Park on Saturday.

Barkley and García, meanwhile, both missed the club’s pre-season trip to the USA, as well as three warm-up games that followed, due to injuries.

Asked about team news ahead of facing Newcastle, Emery said: “Tomorrow Emi Martinez is suspended, Garcia is injured and Barkley is not fit.”
