Graham Potter Releases Statement Following West Ham Sacking

West Ham United confirmed on Friday that Graham Potter has been relieved of his duties as head coach, ending his short-lived tenure at the London Stadium. The decision comes after a difficult run of results, with the Hammers failing to register a league win in their last six matches, slipping down the Premier League table, and crashing out of the Carabao Cup earlier than expected.

Just hours after the club’s announcement, Potter released an official statement addressing his departure, expressing both disappointment and gratitude. “Managing West Ham United has been a tremendous honour,” he began. “I want to thank the players, staff, and of course the fans, who showed me support even in challenging times. It is disappointing not to have delivered the results we all hoped for, but I leave with respect for the club and confidence in the talent within this squad.”

Potter, who was appointed only months ago amid high expectations, admitted that results had not met the standard required but highlighted positives from his brief reign. He pointed to the development of young players, the team’s commitment in training, and flashes of the attacking football style he tried to implement.

The former Brighton and Chelsea boss also emphasized resilience, noting that he remains optimistic about his managerial future. “This chapter ends sooner than I imagined, but that is football. I remain proud of the work my team and I put in and look forward to my next challenge.”

West Ham supporters have been split in their reaction. Some argued that Potter needed more time to impose his philosophy, while others backed the board’s decision, citing poor results and a lack of consistency. Attention now turns to who will take over, with several experienced names already linked to the vacancy.

For Potter, the immediate future may involve taking a break from management before returning refreshed. His statement reflects a man determined not to let this setback define him, and given his track record, it is likely he will be back on the touchline sooner rather than later.
