Leeds United Goalkeeper completes move away from Elland Road

Leeds United sent out a lot of players on loan in the summer transfer window. Most of them were not part of Daniel Farke’s first team plans, while others were sent out to gain experience.

Youngster Charlie Crew joined Doncaster Rovers on loan in the transfer window. The highly rated midfield start gets a chance to gain valuable experience on loan and get meaningful minutes in first team football.

And now, his Leeds U21 teammate has completed a move that will see a similar path.

Leeds U21 goalkeeper Rory Mahady has completed a short term loan to Scunthorpe United. Mahady, who was a part of the youth side that lifted the National League Cup, will join the National League side on an ’emergency’ loan as stated by the club’s website:

“Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of hot prospect goalkeeper Rory Mahady on a short term loan deal from Leeds United.

“The nature of this loan sees Mahady join United ahead of tonight’s encounter with York City, providing an instant impact due to Rory Watson being unable to feature against his parent club and Maison Campbell being injured to face his former side.”

The Scotland U21 stopper is set to be in action against York City tonight.

Leeds United star wanted by European clubs

Speaking of goalkeepers, Illan Meslier is still under contract at Leeds United. The Frenchman has been the topic of interest for many European clubs in the past couple of weeks. Inter Milan are said to have really strong interest in completing a deal. Meslier has a huge decision to make in January; Leeds could push to sell him, but he will be available to speak to clubs to join on a free transfer.

“I’m sure there’ll be clubs looking at Meslier, there’ll be clubs from abroad who’d probably be looking at the Frenchman.

“There’s been reported interest from Inter Milan potentially on a free, they do like to sign players on free contracts, as I said, saves them a lot of money.

“I think there will be interest in some French clubs as well. As it stands right now, I think it’ll be difficult for Leeds to try to sell him in January just due to his contract situation and the player himself knowing that he’s third choice there, he’s probably happy to sit out his contract and leave for free at the end of the season.”
