According to several transfer sources, including TalkSport and PSG Talk, Aston Villa have identified Asensio as a top target in their bid to add more creativity and experience to their attacking options. The Spanish international, who joined PSG from Real Madrid in 2023, has struggled for consistent minutes under Luis Enrique and could be open to a move where he can play a more central role.
Emery, who previously worked with Asensio during his time managing in Spain, is said to admire the player’s technical intelligence and versatility. Known for his ability to operate both as an attacking midfielder and a winger, Asensio would bring valuable Champions League experience to a Villa side aiming to establish themselves among the Premier League’s elite.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest that Villa are weighing up both a loan and a permanent deal, with PSG believed to be open to letting the 29-year-old leave if an acceptable offer is made. The transfer fee is expected to be around €15 million, a figure that Villa could afford following recent player sales, including the departure of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United.
Emery’s side are currently managing their spending carefully due to UEFA’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), but recent financial adjustments have reportedly given Villa some breathing space in the market. Club director Monchi is working closely with Emery to identify players who can fit the team’s tactical system without breaching spending limits.
