Ex rangers ace Ryan Kent told ‘door closed’ on new contract as he looks for new club

Former Rangers winger Ryan Kent has now been told that the “door is closed” on any possibility of a new contract at his former club, as the 28-year-old continues his search for a new team. Once regarded as one of the most electric wide players in the Scottish Premiership, Kent’s career has taken a significant turn since leaving Ibrox, and the latest update confirms that a return to Rangers is no longer on the table.

Kent left Rangers in 2023 after failing to agree fresh terms, joining Fenerbahçe in Turkey with high expectations. However, his spell abroad never fully ignited, with game time becoming inconsistent and his influence diminishing under multiple managers. He was later loaned to Basaksehir, but even that move failed to fully revive the explosive form he showed under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

Now out of favour and actively searching for a new club, Kent was reportedly open to the idea of reuniting with Rangers, a club where he enjoyed the best period of his career—winning the league title during the invincible 2020/21 campaign and becoming a fan favourite for his pace, flair, and ability to perform in big European nights.

But insiders close to the Rangers hierarchy have made it clear that the club has “moved on,” insisting the door is firmly shut on any prospect of a comeback. With Rangers undergoing major structural and squad changes—especially after the recent executive shake-up involving Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell—the club is focused on building a new long-term identity rather than revisiting past stars.

For Kent, this leaves a period of uncertainty. His representatives are believed to be exploring opportunities in England, Turkey, and the Middle East, but no concrete offer has been finalised. At 28, he is entering what should be his prime years, yet he now faces the challenge of rebuilding his reputation and proving he can still deliver at a high level.

The coming weeks will be crucial, as the former Rangers ace tries to secure the next chapter of his career—one that now looks certain to be away from Ibrox forever.
