Something Shocking Happened to Newcastle Fans After the Match

Newcastle United have launched an official complaint after reports emerged of shocking treatment of their travelling supporters during the Champions League trip to Marseille. What should have been a tough but routine away outing quickly turned into a chaotic and distressing situation for many fans. According to the club, French police used “unnecessary and disproportionate force” on supporters who were simply trying to exit the stadium after the final whistle.

Witness accounts describe how fans were first held inside a concourse, then met with pepper spray, shields and batons as they attempted to move toward the exits. The sudden surge of panic caused crowd compression in the upper areas, leaving some supporters frightened, disoriented, and struggling to find safe space. Videos circulating online show fans coughing, shielding their faces and shouting for help as police lines closed in.

Newcastle officials say the scenes were unacceptable, especially given that fans had followed all travel instructions provided before the match. The club is demanding a full investigation, raising the issue with UEFA, Marseille officials and French authorities. With safety of away fans becoming a growing concern across Europe, many supporters are calling for stronger protections and clearer accountability for incidents like this.
