Exclusive: Everton pull Calvert-Lewin U-turn after new twist

Everton could now be forced to consider offers for star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer following the collapse of their takeover, sources have told Football Insider.

The Friedkin Group pulled out of the deal to buy the Toffees last week (18 July), plunging the club back into uncertainty in a new twist.

A takeover would have given Everton the ability to renew Calvert-Lewin’s contract, with his current deal set to expire in under 12 months.

But with the deal collapsing, sources say an exit for the England international this summer is now a real possibility – with club chiefs set to pull a U-turn on accepting offers for his services.

Everton are desperate not to let Calvert-Lewin run down the remainder of his contract and leave the club for free next year.

Newcastle moved for the striker earlier this summer but have cooled their interest after failing to agree a deal with the Merseysiders

Calvert-Lewin was the top scorer for Sean Dyche’s in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring eight goals in a relatively injury-free campaign.

He has hit 68 goals in total for the Toffees since joining the club from Sheffield United in 2016.

Everton have moved to add forward Iliman Ndiaye in this summer window and also have Neal Maupay and Beto on their books.
