Striker makes choice as AC Milan launch 11th hour bid to hijack West Ham move

AC Milan have launched an 11th hour bid to hijack a West Ham striker move and a journalist claims he has made an instant decision.

West Ham have been trying to sign a new striker ever since landing Max Kilman nearly four weeks ago.

It has proved far from easy, as seems to be the case with most West Ham transfers.

But there seems to have been some welcome progress in the last couple of days.

The Hammers reached stalemate in negotiations with Aston Villa for Jhon Duran.

So West Ham technical director Tim Steidten switched his attentions to Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug and – allegedly – Roma’s Tammy Abraham.

As exclusively revealed by Hammers News yesterday, Steidten left the club’s US tour to head to his native Germany for talks regarding 31-year-old Fullkrug.

Full steam ahead for Hammers over Fullkrug?

West Ham warned Dortmund want a big fee for Fullkrug and that they still needed to be persuaded to sell him.

Talk of a move for Abraham, a former West Ham target before he joined Roma, then accelerated.

There has been claim and counter claim about the club’s chances of signing Fullkrug.

Some reports claim he is still in Switzerland as part of Dortmund’s pre-season camp. Others state he has boarded a plane to fly to London for a Hammers medical.

Some West Ham fans have even voiced concern about ‘short-termism’ given he turns 32 next season.

A striker of Fullkrug’s quality – he matched Jarrod Bowen with 28 goal contributions last season – will always be in demand.

And it is rarely smooth sailing for West Ham when it comes to transfers.

Striker makes choice after Milan tried to hijack West Ham move

So fans will not be surprised to learn there has been a late twist.

Because the striker has been forced to make a choice as AC Milan launched an 11th hour bid to hijack the West Ham move.

According to respected Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan pounced for both Fullkrug and Abraham when learning of West Ham’s interest.

This time, though, there looks set to be a very happy ending for the Hammers.

Because Di Marzio claims Fullkrug has chosen West Ham, leaving Milan focusing on Abraham instead.

That tallies with claims from top Hammers insider Sean Whetstone, who states Fullkrug is on a private jet bound for London where he will finalise a deal to sign for West Ham.

“Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Füllkrug is flying into London on a private jet today to progress his move to West Ham,” Whetstone said.

There is no lack of irony here as Milan had planned to appoint Julen Lopetegui as their new boss before fans petitioned against the plan.

Happy West Ham ending for a change?

The outlet claims the Hammers are close to an agreement with Dortmund over a fee for the Euro 2024 star, who has entered the last two years of his contract.

“Final details on the deal are being sorted between the clubs, notably on the structure of the fee,” the report states.

Elements of the player’s personal terms are also being finalised.

“There’s now growing optimism a deal can be struck for the Germany international.”

Fullkrug is one of four signings West Ham are currently hoping to complete.

Crysencio Summerville is having his medical at the time of writing while a deal is in the works for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

A new and improved bid has also been made for defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
