West Ham make move to sign Napoli star, medical scheduled but it’s bad news for Julen Lopetegui

West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui is still on the hunt for further signings in the summer transfer window it seems.

The summer window has been an exceptional one for the Hammers so far, but the West Ham head coach seems determined to make things even better.

One area that definitely still needs improving at the London Stadium is the central midfield department.

Lopetegui is said to be prioritising a move to sign Carlos Soler, but there could be room for a more conventional central midfielder to come into the club as well this summer.

Our midfield looked worrying open during our 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the London Stadium on Saturday, and devoid of any kind of pace, power, dynamism or athleticism.

That clearly has to change if Lopetegui is to guide us to any kind of success, and to be fair to him, he is seemingly determined to bolster his engine room ranks.

Julen Lopetegui eyes Napoli star for West Ham

The Spaniard seems to be intent on bolstering his ranks at the London Stadium even further still before the summer transfer window closes.

However, he definitely will need to shift some of the deadwood on first in order to raise the required funds.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Alessandro Buongiorno, Jens Cajuste, and Natan of Napoli are participating in preseason training camp of SSC Napoli at Stadi...

And if Lopetegui is able to do that, there’s one player in particular who he seems to be keen on.

According to a report from Area Napoli, West Ham recently made a move to sign Napoli midfielder Jens Cajuste.

However, it now appears as though the 25-year-old is Ipswich Town bound, with Sacha Tavolieri claiming that he’s heading to East Anglia to undergo a medical.

That said, he hasn’t officially signed for the Tractor Boys just yet, so the Hammers could still hijack the deal for the 23-capped Sweden international.

Lopetegui definitely needs to add some more strength in depth to his central midfield ranks – specifically more athleticism and technical ability.

Jens Cajuste perfect for West Ham

Cajuste would be just the man for the job as far as I’m concerned.

The Napoli star, 25, is incredibly comfortable in possession, and he’d be a huge upgrade on Tomas Soucek.

He has energy and stamina in abundance as well, and is perfectly suited to the Premier League, what with his robust playing style.

He’s available for just a £1.3 million loan fee, and an option to purchase him permanently next summer for only £11.5 million, according to Area Napoli.

That’s exceptional value whatever way you look at it.

Unfortunately for West Ham though, it seems unlikely that we will be signing Jens Cajuste this summer, with Ipswich Town out in front in the race for his signature.
