West Ham submit bid for £20m man Harry Kane called a ‘great player’

West Ham have already made nine signings so far this summer – but Julen Lopetegui wants a tenth.

Tim Steidten – Director of Football at the London Stadium – has worked hard to transform West Ham’s squad, with the signings of Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug standing out in particular.

Now – however – West Ham could make a tenth addition before Friday’s deadline…

West Ham targeting Tammy Abraham

Despite spending £27m to sign Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund, West Ham are still keen to sign another striker to upgrade on Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, with Tammy Abraham a late target.

That is according to Corriere dello Sport in Italy.

Gianluca Di Marzio has since added to this story – claiming that West Ham have actually now made a bid for the striker.

The Italian news outlet believe West Ham are showing late interest after hearing of Roma’s desperation to sell Abraham for financial reasons, with the Serie A outfit willing to offload the England international for just €23m (£20m) – much less than the £34m spent to sign him from Chelsea in August 2021.

Corriere dello Sport believe the Hammers have already opened talks with Roma to request further information on the situation, as Everton and AC Milan also pay close attention.

Last season, Abraham – who Harry Kane once called a “great player” – scored just one goal in 12 appearances after battling back from a serious knee injury.

Hammers could get a bargain if England international avoids injury setback

Of course, some West Ham fans will be wary of spending around £20m on Abraham after his serious anterior cruciate ligament injury.

However, if the east Londoners can ensure that the 26-year-old is unlikely to suffer any setbacks during medical examinations, this could end up being a £20m bargain.

Abraham has previously scored 30 goals in 82 appearances for Chelsea – better than a goal every three games – while he has also netted 26 in 40 games for Aston Villa, and 26 in 48 for Bristol City.

It should also be noted that the Londoner is five years younger than the 31-year-old Fullkrug, so he would represent a more long term option for the Irons.

As you can see, Abraham’s goalscoring record in English football is superb, and if Steidten gets this deal over the line, it could prove to be inspired business for just £20m.
