Barcelona have reportedly ruled out a 36-year-old German manager as a potential successor to Xavi for two reasons, according to a report.

Barcelona has initiated the search for a new manager to succeed Xavi Hernandez, who is set to depart the club at the season’s end.

According to reports, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is favoring candidates from the German football school. This inclination has sparked speculation surrounding Hansi Flick, while Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp are also under consideration.

Another German contender on Barcelona’s radar as a potential successor to Xavi is Julian Nagelsmann. The 36-year-old, currently managing the German national team, will become available after UEFA Euro 2024 when his contract expires. Barcelona is actively considering Nagelsmann for the role.

However, a recent report from journalist Toni Juanmarti on SPORT suggests that Nagelsmann is now being viewed as a less likely option to succeed Xavi at Barcelona, with his candidacy practically ruled out.

While Nagelsmann is highly regarded within the club and the prospect of his free availability after Euro 2024 is seen as advantageous, there are two main reasons why he is not considered an ideal fit for Barcelona.

Firstly, the timing of Euro 2024 poses a challenge as it concludes in mid-July, delaying Nagelsmann’s availability to take over at Barcelona. This timing would not align well with the club’s need for prompt planning ahead of the upcoming season.

Additionally, Barcelona prefers a candidate with more experience and a proven track record. While Nagelsmann achieved success at TSG Hoffenheim, his stints at Bayern Munich and with the Germany national team have faced challenges.

While Nagelsmann’s coaching prowess is respected, there are lingering concerns about his ability to effectively handle players and navigate difficult situations.

Given these considerations, Nagelsmann is now effectively removed from contention as Xavi’s replacement at Barcelona.
