Everton are ready to sign a new right-winger in the upcoming January transfer market, according to TEAMtalk.
The online outlet reported on 8 October that VfB Stuttgart wideman Silas Katompa Mvumpa, currently on loan at Red Star Belgrade, looks to be a player of interest already [Florian Plettenberg, 7 October].
Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto was targeted in the summer, but will not be moving on now after signing a new contract, with a right-winger remaining the top priority at Goodison Park.
Everton dealt Wilfried Gnonto transfer blow as January nears
Of all the players on the shortlist at Goodison Park, it looked as though Gnonto was the most attainable given Leeds’ failure to get back to the Premier League.
However, the 20-year-old’s recent signing of a new contract at Elland Road amid a make-or-break promotion challenge is likely to see him stay put unless a massive bid is mounted from Goodison.
Lyon star Ernest Nuamah was another target, but his resistance to leave John Textor’s club was made clear on Deadline Day [Sky Sports, 31 August].
Dan Friedkin, who beat Textor to secure a takeover agreement with Farhad Moshiri on Merseyside, is expected to complete his buyout before January, and that could free up funds for a statement transfer.
Buying Silas could still be complicated – he’s already on loan away from Stuttgart – but if Friedkin wants to make an immediate splash in the transfer market, the 26-year-old looks to be the safest bet.
