Everton have had their fair share of stars seek new beginnings over the years, but one particular exit wasn’t actually wanted by Sean Dyche.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s situation at Everton is very much up in the air right now with his contract set to expire in the summer.
There has been interest from Saudi in Calvert-Lewin, as well as other various clubs.
However, the Friedkin Group don’t want to lose Calvert-Lewin and see him playing a big part moving forward, so they’ve made a new promise to him about a brighter future at Everton.
Interestingly, there was one player that Everton had no choice but to lose, which is something that Sean Dyche was talking about in his press conference ahead of Fulham.
Sean Dyche never wanted to wave goodbye to £22m star but Everton couldn’t resist the money
Fulham are set to travel to Goodison Park to face the mighty Toffees on Saturday evening in the Premier League in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
One player who is making a return to Merseyside is Alex Iwobi, who left to join Fulham for £22m back in September of last year.
Speaking in his press conference, Sean Dyche was asked about Alex Iwobi and made an interesting admission.
“Yeah it was a very good deal for the club. I thought he was an excellent servant in my time here. I enjoyed having him around the place and I thought he was a joy to work with.
“A very good player in my opinion and yeah not one I wanted to lose but needs must at that time.”
Alex Iwobi’s time at Everton
Iwobi spent four years on Merseyside before joining Fulham, making 140 appearances in that time.
Interestingly, Ian Wright claimed that Everton were crazy to sell Alex Iwobi at that time, but as Sean Dyche says, the money helped the club in that situation.
The winger hasn’t exactly set the world alight at Fulham with seven goals so far in over 40 appearances but he’s been a consistent performer for them.
Iliman Ndiaye is the player currently tearing it up for the Toffees on the wing, so any memories or worries about Iwobi’s exit certainly won’t be heard anymore.
