Everton’s attack has been a real area of worry for the fanbase, who have been forced to watch Sean Dyche’s team struggle to threaten for years now.
Naturally, that is owed to the pragmatic philosophy of the 53-year-old Everton manager, but a lack of quality across the board hasn’t helped his situation.
Fortunately, despite their ongoing financial restrictions, Kevin Thelwell at least managed to provide a little more firepower with some wise investments over the summer.
One £17m signing in particular has already made himself a hero around Goodison Park.
Jamie Redknapp and Louis Saha praise Iliman Ndiaye
Jamie Redknapp kickstarted the praise for Iliman Ndiaye by telling Sky Sports: ‘He is dynamite Louis.’
Naturally, the former Everton man agreed, with Louis Saha concurring: ‘He is. The confidence, the power to hold the ball and give the actual momentum for the striker to have the ball. When you panic and you give the ball too early to the striker, they don’t have those little seconds to get the right confidence to strike. He’s able to do that.
‘He reminds me a bit of Steven Pienaar. I love his capacity to dribble and ask questions. Defenders, all the time, have to remain on their toes and this is very interesting.
‘Whether he’s on the left or the right, he always finds a solution.’
Redknapp then picked his point back up, noting: ‘That’s a good comparison because Steven could really play as well.
‘What he does is he gives everybody a breather because he gets the ball, he keeps it, they can get up the pitch. He gives you that X factor with goals, assists. And he is as good as anyone in the Premier League right now at doing what he does.
‘He’s so difficult to defend against and the crowd love him. They’ve taken to him, you know what it’s like as an Evertonian. They love this man. It’s a really good fit.’
Everton cannot become completely reliant on Iliman Ndiaye
Although he is already a fan favourite, with Ndiaye loving his new Everton chant, Dyche must ensure that he does not become too dependent on him.
After all, if there is just one outstanding asset that the Toffees rely on to spearhead their attack, it becomes so much easier for the opposition to identify this and double up on him.
Fulham managed to quell his threat yesterday by doing exactly that, whilst Jack Harrison disappointed on the other flank.
The rest of the squad needs to step up in terms of creativity, pace and trickery if they are to turn Dyche’s team into a multi-faceted threat.
Saha and Redknapp are just the latest to rave about his talents, which the club must build around going forward.
