Manager makes ‘big call’ to demote ‘terrific’ Everton loanee
So many potential superstars were falling by the wayside, and as such, the Toffees were losing out.
That is exactly what James Vaughan was brought in to fix, handed the job title of loans pathway manager.
He has since impressed with a few of his selections, but one ongoing deal is yet to bear fruit.
Harry Tyrer relegated to second-choice at Blackpool
Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette, after making the bold call to drop Everton loanee Harry Tyrer from his starting squad, Steve Agnew sought to explain the call.
After all, the Tangerines’ boss had previously started the goalkeeper in his side’s last eight League One matches, yet preferred the experienced Richard O’Donnell to him against Wigan Athletic on Monday night.
Quizzed about the decision, the manager admitted: ‘Harry has done well, he’s made saves at crucial times for us in games, and he’s a terrific young goalkeeper.
‘In the last few games we’ve conceded goals; we’re not saying that’s all down to the goalkeeper because it’s not, we made changes in the back four as well. Although we conceded two goals tonight, so we can still improve in that department; we were a threat at the top end of the pitch.
‘It’s always a big call because you don’t change your goalkeeper very often. Harry has fitted in the dressing room well, but we’ve got Rich’s (O’Donnell) experience, and we felt we need that voice behind the back line.’
It will take something special to replace Jordan Pickford at Everton
Whilst this setback very well could spur Tyrer on to prove the doubters wrong, at this moment in time, the 22-year-old looks unlikely to burst into Everton’s first team anytime soon.
After all, not only is he struggling to perform in League One, but it would take something extraordinarily special to usurp Jordan Pickford in Sean Dyche’s net.
Signed for £30m back in 2017, this former Sunderland shot-stopper has swiftly grown into one of the club’s best and most reliable assets by some distance.
It’s widely believed that, were it not for Pickford, Everton would have certainly fallen to relegation.
Not just a regular for his club but also a mainstay at international level as well, the 30-year-old remains a great source of pride for Evertonians.
That is, despite a recent wobble for England, with Dyche commenting on Pickford’s struggling form recently.
Hence why it will be near-impossible, until he starts noticeably declining, to ever usurp him.
