Everton are the form team heading into Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Southampton, and Paul Merson has made his prediction for the clash. Russell Martin has endured a torrid time of things since gaining promotion to the Premier League at Southampton, with the Saints still searching for their first win.

Everton are quite the opposite, currently enjoying a change in fortunes in Sean Dyche‘s last five games, going unbeaten and winning two games in the process.

Dwight McNeil has a chance of featuring at the weekend for Everton, but it all depends on how he responds and is feeling on the day.

One worrying stat heading into the clash is the fact that the Toffees are rock bottom in the Premier League for average possession.

Interestingly, Paul Merson has made a bizarre prediction ahead of the game.

Paul Merson was wrong last time out when he predicted Fulham’s trip to Goodison Park, opting for three points to be handed to the Cottagers.

Now, he’s given a strange prediction for the Southampton clash.

Speaking in his Sportskeeda column, Paul Merson has predicted a 2-1 win for the Saints, despite talking about how Everton are going to dominate the game throughout his explanation.

“Everton will know exactly how Southampton will want to play against them. The Saints will take a million chances by trying to play out from the back and Sean Dyche will have a plan ready. Someone should tell Southampton that stuff only works on PlayStation!

“Everton are now five games unbeaten and are enjoying a bit of a good run. They will squeeze Southampton and it will only be a matter of time before Everton score in my opinion.

“If Ipswich and Southampton don’t win this weekend, that’s 20 league games between them without a win. These teams are definitely in trouble.”

Dwight McNeil’s injury could spark changes for Everton

Dwight McNeil is touch and go for the clash, as previously mentioned.

Sean Dyche would be better off resting him, regardless, against what is one of the weaker sides in the league, with other options to call upon.

Interestingly, McNeil has operated centrally in recent games. Everton fans have even been calling for Iliman Ndiaye to operate in that position, so that could be an easy swap.

Jack Harrison has been operating on the right, with Jesper Lindstrom the most likely to slot in on the left if Dyche keeps the same system.
